THE SECRET WAY TO OVERCOME DIGITAL DISTRACTION
So, first, let us start with,
What is a digital distraction?
‘Digital distraction is an impulse control disorder that involves the obsessive use of mobile devices, the internet or video games.’
Excess of digital distraction causes a digital addiction and it is very harmful as it affects our brain.
What are its causes?
Like many other addictions, this addiction is also very harmful and is caused by the overuse of gadgets. It can also be caused by social media as when you post something on the social media your minds get diverted to the post as how many people would like it? or will people comment on my post? etc. As each time you open the phone to check social media, it creates an impact on your mind and the more times you look into your phone your mind creates more impulses and a time comes when you are addicted to it. Many people do not even come to know how they are also a victim of this disorder.
What are its symptoms?
So many people will ask that how would I be able to know if I am digitally addicted? I will share some symptoms which will help you to identify whether you are digitally addicted or not. Some symptoms are as follows: -
1. If you are unable to stop yourself from checking social media sites.
2. If you can’t stop yourself from playing games on your gadget.
3. Less productivity or less interest in studies
If you have such symptoms in you then sorry to say, friends; you are digitally addicted. But no needs to worry as I have brought you a secret formula to overcome this addiction. The 3-step secret formula is as follows: -
Step1: Limit your screen time
Step2: Go in solitude
Step 3: Practice a zero-device day
Let us look at the 3 secret step formula in detail
Limit your screen time
‘Limit your screen time’ is a process to reduce your time spent on your gadgets. If you are immensely addicted to your device then first try to limit it to 30 minutes per day. Now you people will tell we have our online lecture and then online classes and the adults may say that they have office work from home so it happens almost 7 to 8 hours per day. So, except your online school and classes or office work, you all must be playing a video game or would spend your valuable time on social media. So, limit it to 30 minutes in the beginning and later on try to limit it to 15 minutes per day. If you try to practice this process then your 50% addiction would go off and you should continue this process for 66 days. Because the University of London has proven that to break a habit and install a new habit you need 66 days. There is a quote that “The marketplace rewards mastery, not mediocrity.”
GO IN SOLITUDE
You all must be thinking, what is meant by ‘solitude’?
So, friends solitude means the state of being alone. Now, by saying this I want to tell you that you should not be checking your phone every 5 minutes. The great successful people said that you should go in solitude if you want to achieve something. But social media solitude is not respected in our society as the people have the feeling that if they will not post their selfies or go to the social media for checking new posts then they have the fear of being missed out.
“The soul needs solitude not social media.”
PRACTICE A ZERO-DEVICE DAY
This step is very important if you want to get rid of your digital addiction. This step should be followed once a week. You can start by having a zero-device hour and then after 2 to 3 weeks you can have a zero-device day. This tries to weaken the impulses that are created in your mind when you are continuously using your gadget. This also helps to have control over your mind and body.
Conclusion: -
I am not trying to stop you from using gadgets, I too know the importance of gadgets in our life. I am trying to tell you that you should be using your gadgets in a limited quantity as everything which is happening in excess has a bad outcome.
